Declawing Cats

My personal opinion on declawing cats is that it should ONLY be performed as a last resort to inappropriate scratching.  Many declaw procedures could be avoided by trying some simple training tools with cats and weekly nail trims.

My favorites:

When training kittens to scratch on these, sprinkle with cat nip and place them on the object.  It is also important to offer them both vertical and horizontal scratching surfaces.

These are my favorite nail trimmers:

I have also included a couple of videos to help illustrate the actual procedure of declawing a cat.  Remember, this is an AMPUTATION of the joint at the end of the toes!
